India Industrial Production Growth July 2026 Reaches 6.7%

India Industrial Production Growth

India’s industrial production growth in July 2026 shows that India’s industrial sector made a strong start to the 2026-27 financial year, with industrial production rising 6.7% year-on-year in July. The increase came despite pressure from the West Asia conflict and higher energy prices, pointing to continued strength in manufacturing and investment activity.

The India industrial production growth figure for July 2026 was lower than the revised 8.8% growth recorded in June. However, the latest data still showed that industrial activity remained strong during the opening months of the year.

Data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation showed that growth in the Index of Industrial Production remained strong during the period. Industrial output increased 6.3% during the four months of 2026-27 according to the data.

A major contributor to the production growth was the capital goods segment, which recorded a double‑digit increase in July. Strong capital goods production is viewed as a signal for investment because it reflects demand for machinery and equipment used by businesses.

India’s industrial production growth in July 2026 also comes at a time when the economy is looking for a private‑sector investment cycle. Continued growth in capital goods production could indicate that companies are increasing spending on capacity and equipment.

Rajani Sinha, Chief Economist at CareEdge Ratings, said industrial activity had remained strong during the year despite global uncertainties and elevated energy prices.

However, not all segments performed well. Consumer non‑durable goods remained an area with production falling 1% in July. Output in the category increased 1.1% during April‑July, highlighting softer demand in some parts of the consumer economy.

The industrial production growth data also comes ahead of the release of GDP figures for the first quarter of 2026-27. The Reserve Bank of India has forecast 7% GDP growth for the quarter, while some economists have estimated that expansion could have been as high as 8%.

The India industrial production growth July 2026 numbers therefore provide an early indication of economic activity, although weaker consumer non‑durable production remains an area to watch in the months ahead.
