Asian Games 2026 Day 4: India Women Win First Gold
The Asian Games 2026 Day 4: India’s first gold medal arrived on Tuesday as the women’s cricket team defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final at Aichi-Nagoya. India had six medals without a gold after Monday, but the cricket team changed that with a dominant performance.
India posted 216/3 after choosing to bat first, with Smriti Mandhana making 79, Richa Ghosh hitting 49 and Shafali Verma scoring 48. Sri Lanka were then bowled out for 69, giving India a second successive Asian Games women’s cricket gold.
The Asian Games 2026 Day 4 India first gold medal was not the only major development for the contingent. India’s men’s badminton team defeated Japan 3-0 in the quarterfinal, ensuring a team medal and keeping its campaign alive.
In boxing, Sakshi Chaudhary opened her women’s 51kg campaign with a 5-0 unanimous victory over Philippines boxer Aira Cordero Villegas. Jadumani Singh Mandengbam also advanced after beating Nepal’s Chandra Bahadur Thapa by the same score in the men’s 55kg Round of 32.
Shooting produced a disappointing result in the mixed team 10m air rifle event. Parth Mane and Elavenil Valarivan reached the final but finished fourth among the four competing teams.
Wushu added another medal to India’s tally as Roshibina Devi reached the women’s 60kg sandal semifinals. The two-time Asian Games medallist defeated Macau’s Chu Man Sin 5-0 in the quarterfinal.
Elsewhere, Chetan Bhatt missed out on a karate bronze after losing his men’s 84kg kumite playoff to Chinese Taipei’s Meng-yu Chung. Wushu’s Aryan also exited after a 0-2 quarterfinal defeat against Uzbekistan’s Saydulla Addurashitov.
The Asian Games 2026 Day 4 India’s first gold medal gives the contingent an early boost as more events continue across Aichi-Nagoya. India’s women’s table tennis team was also contesting a quarterfinal against North Korea, while badminton, boxing, shooting, fencing and other disciplines remained active.
With the cricket gold secured and a badminton team medal assured, attention now shifts to the remaining knockout rounds and medal events as India looks to add to its tally.
