Amazon layoffs in India 2026 have affected employees across customer service, selling partner services, and marketplace support, with additional cuts reported in parts of the company’s retail operations. Employees in India, the US and the UK have been affected, according to reports.
Amazon has confirmed the workforce reduction, describing it as involving a “small number” of roles. The latest Amazon job cuts are mainly focused on its Stores business, which oversees the company’s core e-commerce operations.
The latest Amazon India layoffs come as the company’s Great Indian Festival shopping event begins in India. Internal communications, including messages shared on Slack, have provided details about the affected teams.
The affected teams are not limited to one area of Amazon’s business. Customer service, selling partner services, and marketplace support have reportedly been affected, while retail engineering roles have also been impacted.
The latest reduction follows a much larger restructuring. Amazon confirmed 14,000 corporate job cuts in October 2025 and another 16,000 in January 2026, bringing the total to about 30,000 corporate positions since October.
Amazon is also increasing its focus on artificial intelligence and infrastructure. Reports say the company is preparing to invest about $220 billion in AI infrastructure, including data centres and chips, as it expands its AI capabilities.
The workforce changes come alongside continued investment in India. Amazon’s Bengaluru campus spans 1.1 million square feet and can accommodate more than 7,000 employees. Amazon describes it as its second-largest office in Asia.
The developments show that the Amazon layoffs in India in 2026 are happening at the same time as ongoing investment in the company’s operations in India. This does not mean that Amazon is leaving the market. In June, Amazon said it plans to invest another $13 billion in intelligence and cloud infrastructure in India by 2030.
Amazon’s latest round of changes will be watched closely as the company moves resources between its technology departments. The current Amazon job cuts are not as large as previous reductions, but the areas affected show that changes in the workforce are still happening in many teams.
At the time, the Great Indian Festival 2026 started for all customers at midnight on October 8. Amazon is giving discounts of up to 80% in categories. There is also a 10% discount on eligible SBI credit and debit card purchases.
The latest Amazon India layoffs therefore happen at a critical moment for the company’s business in India. Workforce changes are happening while the company keeps investing and prepares for one of its shopping events of the year.
